Our only estate property not behind the Lydhurst gates, Portwood, which was once a gamekeeper’s cottage, is our most discreet house and enjoys total privacy from other estate guests or staff.
Past the pond, through the porch and into the traditional blue boot room with its reclaimed flagstone floor, Portwood shows off its heritage. Downstairs, there is a sitting room with hearth and wood burner, an elegant dining room, and a cozy bedroom/office. Off the sitting room, up one set of stairs, there is a luxurious master bedroom, with reading nook and bathroom suite with free standing bath. A second set of stairs, from the dining room, leads to a spacious sitting room landing, and two further bedrooms including a family room with a built-in bunk. This spacious layout offers great privacy and especially suites a group of friends or family with older children.
A beautifully renovated historic property, complete with a contemporary glass, metal, and oak kitchen extension, with the woods on your doorsteps and fields behind you, Portwood really is the perfect escape.

Activities
Portwood is our village cottage, away from the bustle of the larger Lydhurst estate. It is our most private property, surrounded only by fields and a large pond. However, we offer all Portwood guests full access to the wider estate with a gate fob and a full estate map.
During your stay at Portwood, we invite and encourage you to explore the beautiful landscape at Lydhurst. Take a stroll across the wild meadows to the lookout, relax in the meditation garden, enjoy a picnic under a gentleman oak tree or go for a morning run amongst the bluebells.
Our games room is open to all guests, complete with an American pool table, a vintage ping pong table, regulation darts and a croquet set to use outside. You will find a comfy sofa and chairs, games table, board games and puzzles and a great selection of books. There is also a hidden tennis court nestled in an orchard, complete with tennis wall and a basketball hoop.
