Biodiversity and Conservation

Lydhurst is committed to sustainable land management, promoting species biodiversity and soil regeneration. On the estate you will see grazing cattle and working farm machinery, along with a team of dedicated gardeners and estate workers.

Committed to the beauty of Lydhurst

Many of the team, including the owners, live on site. We are all committed to the beauty of Lydhurst and maintaining and promoting the English countryside. We are passionate about land stewardship and conservation. We lay traditional hedging, follow regenerative grazing methods, and are especially proud of our indigenous wildflower meadows, butterflies, dragonflies and native orchids.

Thriving with wildlife

Please be aware that when you visit Lydhurst, you are visiting the countryside not a sanitized landscape curated for hospitality. Estate animals include (but are not limited to) badgers, barn owls; bats; cows; wild ducks; fallow and roe deer; foxes; geese; goats; guinea fowl; hares; hedgehogs; hens; mice and door mice; rabbits; brown rats; sheep; shrews; voles.

We also have insects – including bees, beetles, flies and cluster flies, hornets, spiders and waspsthese species are incredibly important for biodiversity, even if they are not universally loved.

In-house conservationist

We employ an in-house conservationist and provide all estate guests with plant, flower and butterfly specimen guides. We encourage you to explore the estate and discover even more.
